Overview

This comprehensive course is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to act as a Fire Safety Officer, per the NSW Healthcare Policy Directive PD2010_024. The course encompasses a range of units, ensuring a holistic understanding of fire safety and emergency response.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Apply Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and implement safe work practices in accordance with legislation, industry standards, codes of practice, and regulations.

  • Effectively communicate with occupants, emergency personnel, and stakeholders during emergencies, including providing clear instructions and directions to occupants and visitors and maintaining clear communication in line with the facility emergency plan.

  • Adhere to and implement facility policies, procedures, and emergency response protocols, including initiating, controlling, contributing to, and coordinating initial emergency responses.

  • Safely confine emergencies, use and restore initial response equipment post-response

  • Respond appropriately to emergency signals and warnings

  • Use communication systems effectively.

  • Identify, assess, and manage emergency situations, including controlling associated hazards and assisting occupants, especially those requiring special assistance.

  • Utilise risk management processes to prepare for and respond to facility emergencies, undertake pre-emergency planning, and contribute to facility emergency planning.

  • Take on leadership or deputy roles within the emergency control organisation, wearing required identification and command, control, and coordinate facility emergency response procedures.

  • Document and report on facility emergency responses and outcomes, assist with post-emergency response activities, including contributing to the review and improvement of emergency procedures, and brief emergency services personnel.

  • Interpret information from emergency control indicator equipment like fire indicator panels, building and security management systems, and identify evacuation assembly areas.
